Jy Gas Insider Lowered Holding By 60% During Last Year
Share
Listen to the news

Insiders were net sellers of Jy Gas Limited's (HKG:1407 ) stock during the past year. That is, insiders sold more stock than they bought.

While insider transactions are not the most important thing when it comes to long-term investing, logic dictates you should pay some attention to whether insiders are buying or selling shares.

Jy Gas Insider Transactions Over The Last Year

Over the last year, we can see that the biggest insider sale was by the insider, Yu Jie Song, for HK$14m worth of shares, at about HK$0.65 per share. So it's clear an insider wanted to take some cash off the table, even below the current price of HK$0.67. When an insider sells below the current price, it suggests that they considered that lower price to be fair. That makes us wonder what they think of the (higher) recent valuation. While insider selling is not a positive sign, we can't be sure if it does mean insiders think the shares are fully valued, so it's only a weak sign. This single sale was 60% of Yu Jie Song's stake. Yu Jie Song was the only individual insider to sell over the last year.

Insider Ownership

Looking at the total insider shareholdings in a company can help to inform your view of whether they are well aligned with common shareholders. Usually, the higher the insider ownership, the more likely it is that insiders will be incentivised to build the company for the long term. Jy Gas insiders own about HK$154m worth of shares (which is 53% of the company). Most shareholders would be happy to see this sort of insider ownership, since it suggests that management incentives are well aligned with other shareholders.

What Might The Insider Transactions At Jy Gas Tell Us?

The fact that there have been no Jy Gas insider transactions recently certainly doesn't bother us. It's great to see high levels of insider ownership, but looking back over the last year, we don't gain confidence from the Jy Gas insiders selling. While it's good to be aware of what's going on with the insider's ownership and transactions, we make sure to also consider what risks are facing a stock before making any investment decision. For example, Jy Gas has 2 warning signs (and 1 which makes us a bit uncomfortable) we think you should know about.
