What You Need To Know About The Life Water Berhad (KLSE:LWSABAH) Analyst Downgrade Today
Share
Listen to the news

The latest analyst coverage could presage a bad day for Life Water Berhad (KLSE:LWSABAH), with the analysts making across-the-board cuts to their statutory estimates that might leave shareholders a little shell-shocked. Revenue estimates were cut sharply as analysts signalled a weaker outlook - perhaps a sign that investors should temper their expectations as well. Shares are up 7.0% to RM1.69 in the past week. Investors could be forgiven for changing their mind on the business following the downgrade; but it's not clear if the revised forecasts will lead to selling activity.

Following the downgrade, the current consensus from Life Water Berhad's three analysts is for revenues of RM249m in 2027 which - if met - would reflect a sizeable 20% increase on its sales over the past 12 months. Per-share earnings are expected to surge 24% to RM0.097. Previously, the analysts had been modelling revenues of RM278m and earnings per share (EPS) of RM0.099 in 2027. Indeed, we can see that analyst sentiment has declined measurably after the new consensus came out, with a substantial drop in revenue estimates and a minor downgrade to EPS estimates to boot.

Analysts made no major changes to their price target of RM1.68, suggesting the downgrades are not expected to have a long-term impact on Life Water Berhad's valuation.

Another way we can view these estimates is in the context of the bigger picture, such as how the forecasts stack up against past performance, and whether forecasts are more or less bullish relative to other companies in the industry. It's clear from the latest estimates that Life Water Berhad's rate of growth is expected to accelerate meaningfully, with the forecast 20% annualised revenue growth to the end of 2027 noticeably faster than its historical growth of 11% p.a. over the past five years. By contrast, our data suggests that other companies (with analyst coverage) in a similar industry are forecast to grow their revenue at 5.2% per year. It seems obvious that, while the growth outlook is brighter than the recent past, the analysts also expect Life Water Berhad to grow faster than the wider industry.

The Bottom Line

The most important thing to take away is that analysts cut their earnings per share estimates, expecting a clear decline in business conditions. While analysts did downgrade their revenue estimates, these forecasts still imply revenues will perform better than the wider market. Often, one downgrade can set off a daisy-chain of cuts, especially if an industry is in decline. So we wouldn't be surprised if the market became a lot more cautious on Life Water Berhad after today.

Even so, the longer term trajectory of the business is much more important for the value creation of shareholders. At Simply Wall St, we have a full range of analyst estimates for Life Water Berhad going out to 2028, and you can see them free on our platform here.
