Whilst it may not be a huge deal, we thought it was good to see that the Obook Holdings Inc. (NASDAQ:OWLS) Founder, Chun-Kai Wang, recently bought US$62k worth of stock, for US$5.02 per share. Nevertheless, it only increased their shareholding by a minuscule percentage, and it wasn't a massive purchase by absolute value, either.
In fact, the recent purchase by Chun-Kai Wang was the biggest purchase of Obook Holdings shares made by an insider individual in the last twelve months, according to our records. That means that an insider was happy to buy shares at around the current price of US$5.28. Of course they may have changed their mind. But this suggests they are optimistic. While we always like to see insider buying, it's less meaningful if the purchases were made at much lower prices, as the opportunity they saw may have passed. In this case we're pleased to report that the insider bought shares at close to current prices. Chun-Kai Wang was the only individual insider to buy shares in the last twelve months.
Chun-Kai Wang bought 18.01k shares over the last 12 months at an average price of US$5.23. The chart below shows insider transactions (by companies and individuals) over the last year. If you want to know exactly who sold, for how much, and when, simply click on the graph below!

Looking at the total insider shareholdings in a company can help to inform your view of whether they are well aligned with common shareholders. I reckon it's a good sign if insiders own a significant number of shares in the company. Obook Holdings insiders own about US$269m worth of shares (which is 60% of the company). This kind of significant ownership by insiders does generally increase the chance that the company is run in the interest of all shareholders.
It's certainly positive to see the recent insider purchase. And an analysis of the transactions over the last year also gives us confidence. But we don't feel the same about the fact the company is making losses. Once you factor in the high insider ownership, it certainly seems like insiders are positive about Obook Holdings.
