The rating affirmation is underpinned by the Italian lender's product and revenue diversification, superior domestic franchise, robust funding and liquidity, solid profitability, adequate capitalization, and strong asset quality and loss absorption capacity. The rating agency is of the view that the bank would honor its obligations despite a potential sovereign default, with minimal risk of the Italian government interfering with its debt payments.
