The Zhitong Finance App learned that on September 9, the Hong Kong Government Statistics Department published the results of a statistical survey on the business conditions of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in August 2026. The current trend index of SME business income rose from 43.8 in the contracted area in July 2026 to 44.1 in August 2026, while the business earnings outlook index for the next month (i.e. September 2026) is 47.6.

According to industry analysis, the current business revenue trend index for the industries covered by some statistical surveys increased in August 2026 compared to the previous month, particularly the restaurant industry (from 40.2 to 44.0) and the real estate industry (from 45.2 to 48.5).

The current trend index for new orders in the import and export trade industry fell from 45.0 in July 2026 to 44.8 in August 2026, while the new order outlook index for the next month (i.e. September 2026) is 47.4.

A Hong Kong government spokesman said that the business climate for SMEs improved in August. The current trend index of SME business earnings rose to a three-month high, while the outlook index rose to a six-month high. The outlook index for the real estate industry remained in the expansion range above the 50-point dividing line; at the same time, the business outlook for the restaurant industry and retail industry recorded the most significant improvement in various industries. At the same time, the overall employment situation is generally stable.

Looking ahead, steady economic growth in Hong Kong will continue to support business confidence. However, peripheral adverse factors are still evolving. The Hong Kong Government will continue to closely monitor the situation.
