With a market cap of $39.6 billion, Yum! Brands, Inc. (YUM) is a global quick-service restaurant company that develops, operates, and franchises restaurant brands in the United States, China, and many other international markets. The company manages its business through four main segments: KFC, Taco Bell, Pizza Hut, and Habit Burger & Grill.
Companies valued at $10 billion or more are generally considered “large-cap” stocks, and Yum! Brands fits this criterion perfectly. Its brands specialize in popular fast-food categories including fried chicken, Mexican-style food, pizza, and made-to-order chargrilled burgers and sandwiches.
Shares of the Louisville, Kentucky-based company have fallen 14.6% from its 52-week high of $170.14. Yum! Brands’ shares have decreased 2.7% over the past three months, a steeper decline than the State Street Consumer Discretionary Select Sector SPDR ETF’s (XLY) 1.2% dip over the same time frame.
YUM stock is down 2.8% on a YTD basis, a less pronounced decline than XLY’s 6.1% drop. In the longer term, shares of the company have risen marginally over the past 52 weeks, outpacing XLY’s 3.7% decline over the same time frame.
Despite a few fluctuations, the stock has been trading below its 200-day moving average since early May.
Yum! Brands shares rose 3.3% on Jul. 30 after executives said Taco Bell’s sales impact from the Cyclospora outbreak was beginning to ease, with U.S. same-store sales down 2% so far in the quarter after the peak impact occurred on July 18. The recovery helped ease concerns over Taco Bell’s near-term performance and Q2 2026 comparable sales rose 3% and Taco Bell same-store sales increased 7%, up from 4% a year earlier. Yum also reported better-than-expected Q2 adjusted EPS of $1.62 and KFC delivered 2% same-store sales growth.
In comparison, rival McDonald's Corporation (MCD) has lagged behind YUM stock. MCD stock has decreased 16.8% on a YTD basis and 16.9% over the past 52 weeks.
Despite the stock’s outperformance relative to the peers, analysts remain cautiously optimistic on YUM. The stock has a consensus rating of “Moderate Buy” from the 26 analysts in coverage, and the mean price target of $171.10 is a premium of nearly 18% to current levels.
