D'Ieteren Group (ENXTBR:DIE) Stock Faces Sales Drift As Profit Stays Firm
Share
Listen to the news

Investors came in treating D'Ieteren Group as a high‑multiple compounder with something to prove after a choppy few weeks for the share price. The stock is down about 4% over 7 days and 6% over a month to €167.40. The headline from these half year numbers is simple: profit did the heavy lifting, not sales. Net income for H1 landed at €256.9m on revenue of €3,930.6m, keeping the earnings story alive even as top line momentum softened. For a stock already on a premium P/E, that profit resilience is the real battleground.

Profit Engine Holds For D'Ieteren Bulls

Bulls argue that D'Ieteren Group can grow adjusted profit and cash generation through Belron, PHE and TVH even while Automotive struggles. H1 backs a large part of that claim. Group adjusted PBT group share rose 8.4% at constant FX and trading cash flow increased 12% to €539m, which lines up with the low to mid single digit profit growth narrative. Belron hit key operational milestones. Organic sales rose 8.3%, recalibration penetration reached 52.1% and value added products attachment hit 24.6%. Adjusted margin sat at 23% and free cash flow climbed to €485m. PHE and TVH both delivered mid teens adjusted PBT growth, with PHE adding scale through acquisitions. These data points support the idea that the non Automotive assets are doing the heavy lifting on profitability and cash.

Automotive Drag Keeps D'Ieteren Bears Interested

Sceptics focus on three weak spots: dependence on Belron, ongoing Automotive pressure and the risk that a holding company discount persists. H1 gives that camp some support. D'Ieteren Automotive saw sales fall 10.8%, adjusted operating margin compress to 2.1% from 4.5% and adjusted PBT group share decline about 67% to €36m. Market share in Belgian new cars slipped to 21.5% as margins tightened and operating leverage turned negative. Management has launched a restructuring that could remove roughly 10% to 15% of jobs, yet has not quantified savings or confirmed that the 4% EBIT target for 2028 still holds. At group level, free cash flow was only roughly breakeven once PHE acquisitions were counted, which reinforces the concern that heavy reinvestment and a weaker auto arm could delay any meaningful rethink of D'Ieteren Group's holding discount.
