Alstom Signs EUR1.2 Billion Contracts for Battery-electric Trains in UK

03:11 AM EDT, 09/11/2026 (MT Newswires) -- Alstom (ALO.PA) said Friday it secured 1.2 billion euros worth of contracts to deliver battery-electric trains to TransPennine Express in the UK. The contracts include a 930-million-euro agreement for 29 five-car battery-electric multiple units and 230 million euros in maintenance. Manufacturing is expected to begin in 2028, with deliveries starting in 2032. The trains, based on the French rail and transport equipment company's Adessia Stream platform, will be used on routes across northern England.
