Rockwell Automation, Inc. (ROK), headquartered in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, is a global industrial automation and information technology company. With a market capitalization of $47.6 billion, the company provides automation systems, software, and digital solutions that help manufacturers improve productivity, efficiency, connectivity, and sustainability while enabling the next generation of smart manufacturing across industries globally.
Companies valued between $10 billion and $200 billion are generally classified as “large-cap stocks,” and Rockwell Automation comfortably fits this category. Its substantial market capitalization reflects its size, influence, and established presence in the specialty industrial machinery industry. The company’s competitive edge lies in its century-long expertise in industrial automation and trusted global brand. Its proprietary technology, broad product portfolio, and solid gross profit provide resilience, while investments in AI, digital transformation, and innovation could support future growth.
Despite these notable advantages, ROK is currently 13.9% below its 52-week high of $497.36, reached on June 30, 2026. Over the past three months, ROK shares have declined 6.4%, trailing the S&P 500 ($SPX), which has risen 3.6% over the same period.
Shares of ROK have gained 10.1% year-to-date, underperforming the S&P 500’s 11.9% year-to-date gain. Moreover, the shares have climbed 22.2% over the past 52 weeks, outpacing the index’s 16.2% return over the same period.
While ROK has remained above its 200-day moving average since early April, it has traded below its 50-day moving average since early August, pointing to a recent downtrend.
Rockwell Automation’s outperformance over the past year reflects improving financial performance and a stronger earnings outlook. In the latest quarter, reported on Aug. 4, the company reported 7.9% year-over-year sales growth to $2.3 billion, while adjusted EPS increased 22.5% to $3.49. Rockwell also maintained its fiscal 2026 sales growth outlook and raised its adjusted EPS guidance range to $13.00 to $13.30, potentially supporting investor sentiment.
Improving demand for warehouse automation also prompted the company to raise its fiscal-year guidance, while its exposure to AI, data centers and broader factory automation trends could support its growth outlook. More recently, on August 27, the shares moved up marginally after the company launched TechConnectIQ Support, a digitally enabled service that combines Rockwell’s technical expertise with AI tools to help manufacturers address skills gaps, reduce downtime and resolve issues faster.
Within the competitive specialty industrial machinery industry, top rival GE Vernova Inc. (GEV) has significantly outpaced ROK, gaining 46.5% year-to-date and 51% over the past 52 weeks.
Wall Street analysts are somewhat bullish on ROK’s prospects. The stock carries a consensus “Moderate Buy” rating from the 25 analysts covering it. The mean price target of $484.87 implies 13.2% upside from current levels.
