06:27 AM EDT, 09/15/2026 (MT Newswires) -- The business climate in Germany's retail sector remained "very subdued" in August, as the business environment continued to be "very challenging" amid rising energy prices, the ifo Institute said Tuesday. The ifo business climate index for the sector stood at -29.0 points in August, virtually unchanged from July, as retailers viewed their current business conditions as worse than before. Meanwhile, retailers' outlook slightly improved although business expectations for the remainder of 2026 remained pessimistic, despite the recovery observed in the past months.
