The Spanish government has officially approved the “Airport Regulation Document”, authorizing the airport management company Aena to invest a total of about 13 billion euros in the national airport network over the next five years. According to the plan, around €10 billion is a regulated investment directly related to aviation activities, and the remaining €3 billion is an investment in unregulated commercial activities. In terms of capital allocation, Madrid-Barajas Airport will receive about 4.4 billion euros to expand the terminal and improve infrastructure such as multimodal transport, while Barcelona-El Prat Airport is expected to receive about 1.7 billion euros. This large-scale investment aims to modernize airport infrastructure and services to meet the growing demand for future air passenger flows. Tourism is an important pillar of the Spanish economy, accounting for 5.9% of the country's GDP, creating around 600,000 jobs, and around 80% of visitors arrive by air. The implementation of the plan will further strengthen Spain's infrastructure carrying capacity and connectivity as a major global tourist destination.
