05:07 AM EDT, 09/18/2026 (MT Newswires) -- French authorities are investigating the alleged use of artificial intelligence-enabled smart glasses to film women on the street without consent amid sexual harassment complaints, Reuters reported Friday. The Paris prosecutor's office reportedly opened at least one criminal investigation into the matter, with its cybercrime unit testing the devices as part of the inquiry. The office has not disclosed which specific brands are under scrutiny. US tech giant Meta's (FB2A.F) AI-enabled glasses made with luxury eyewear maker EssilorLuxottica (EL.PA) sold 7 million units last year, according to the report. Meta and EssilorLuxottica did not immediately respond to requests for comment from MT Newswires. (Market Chatter news is derived from conversations with market professionals globally.
