GREAT FALLS, Mont. — A magnitude 3.6 earthquake struck about 4 miles north-northeast of Great Falls, Montana, just after 7:40 a.m. local time, according to USGS. The quake's epicenter was roughly 17 miles below the surface.

Five other magnitude 2.5+ earthquakes struck in and around Great Falls in January and February, including a magnitude 4.2 quake on Jan. 29.

Great Falls is well north of the Yellowstone volcanic region, which is seismically active.
