12:19 PM EDT, 09/18/2026 (MT Newswires) -- Novartis' (NOVN.SW) Cosentyx, or secukinumab, was recommended for approval by a European Medicines Agency committee as a treatment for polymyalgia rheumatica, a condition that causes joint and muscle pain and stiffness. The positive opinion by the EMA's Committee for Medicinal Products for Human Use covers the use of Cosentyx for adult patients with the condition who have had an inadequate response to steroids or who experience relapse during steroid taper, according to a Friday release. The decision is backed by results from the Swiss drugmaker's phase 3 Replenish trial, which met all primary and secondary endpoints across both the 300-milligram and 150-mg treatment arms. The European Commission is expected to issue a final decision within the next two months. If approved, the drug would become the first interleukin-17A inhibitor approved in Europe for treating the condition.
