05:32 AM EDT, 09/23/2026 (MT Newswires) -- British competition regulator updated proposals so that Alphabet's (ABEA.F) Google would be required to give customers more choice and control over their searches on the operating system Google Android and web browser Google Chrome. The UK Competition and Markets Authority urged that people be given access to artificial intelligence assistants for search services, according to a Wednesday release. The proposals also require Google to offer its customers a choice of search services when they open their Android phone or Chrome for the first time, with a yearly prompt to reselect their default provider. The search providers will also be mandated to clearly and accurately attribute content under the strengthened proposals, which will be open for review until Oct. 9. A final regulatory decision is expected by the end of 2026.
