The Zhitong Finance App learned that the Secretary for Transport and Logistics, Chen Meibao, said that Hong Kong's first “Five-Year Plan” set 105 targets, and maintaining Hong Kong's leading position in air cargo throughput in the world is one of the 22 main indicators. Cathay Pacific is Hong Kong's flagship airline. To allow Hong Kong's aviation strength to flourish, the bureau expects in-depth cooperation with Cathay Pacific and all members of the entire airport city to jointly implement various air transport strategies in the “Five-Year Plan” and the new “Policy Address” to fully consolidate and enhance the advantages of an aviation hub.
These include promoting air and sea transport with the Dongguan Airport Center; optimizing customs clearance and two-way trade for fresh food; approving flights flexibly and expanding the international aviation network; strengthening mainland connectivity and increasing global destinations; and developing a sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) industry chain.
This year coincides with Cathay Pacific's 80th anniversary. Chen Meibao attended the company's annual dinner earlier. She was pleased to learn that Cathay Pacific was once again ranked in the top three of the world's best airlines in the 2026 Skytrax “Global Airline Awards”, and was also awarded two awards: World's Best Cabin Attendant and World's Best First Class Lounge. It was also selected as the best cargo operator of the year for the fourth time in the 2027 Airline Industry Achievement Awards (Airline Industry Achievement Awards) organized by the air transport industry magazine “Air Transport World” (ATW).
