Zhitong Finance AP learned that recently, the Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Securities Regulatory Commission, Leung Fung-yee, said that plans to integrate GEM (GEM) with the main board are still under consideration. She further stated that the Hong Kong Stock Exchange will conduct public consultations on this plan and listen widely to opinions from all sectors of the market.

Earlier market reports revealed that the Hong Kong Stock Exchange is actively studying the feasibility of merging the two sectors, hoping to enhance the overall attractiveness and operational efficiency of the Hong Kong capital market by streamlining the listing structure.

As of September 24, there were 2,767 listed companies on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange, including 2,461 on the Main Board and 306 GEM, with market capitalization of HK$45,582 billion and HK$74.5 billion respectively.

PricewaterhouseCoopers previously anticipated that Hong Kong's IPO capital would reach HK$380 billion in 2026, which is 8.6% to 18.8% higher than the HK$320 to HK$350 billion forecast at the beginning of the year. It is expected to remain one of the top three global IPO markets, and believes that the good momentum will continue until 2027. Despite the market facing short-term challenges such as geopolitical tension, inflation, and interest rate fluctuations, the bank is still full of confidence in the growth momentum of the Hong Kong IPO market.
