09:23 AM EDT, 09/25/2026 (MT Newswires) -- UBS Group (UBSG.SW) is said to be exploring ways to avoid new Swiss banking rules, including a possible merger with a foreign lender, US news platform Semafor reported Friday, citing people familiar with the matter. Earlier this week, Swiss lawmakers voted in favor of a proposal requiring the Swiss bank to back its foreign units with 90% common equity tier 1 capital, a move that UBS said "fails to address the root causes" of the 2023 collapse of Credit Suisse. UBS did not immediately respond to a request for comment from MT Newswires. (Market Chatter news is derived from conversations with market professionals globally.
