Crude Oil Down Over 2%; US Consumer Sentiment Eases In September

U.S. stocks traded higher toward the end of trading, with the Nasdaq Composite gaining more than 100 points on Friday.

The Dow traded up 0.85% to 51,785.35 while the NASDAQ gained 0.55% to 27,086.81. The S&P 500 also rose, gaining, 0.50% to 7,742.75.

Leading and Lagging Sectors

Information technology shares jumped by 1.2% on Friday.

In trading on Friday, energy stocks fell by 1.2%.

Top Headline

The University of Michigan’s consumer sentiment index fell to 48.1 in September ​from 51.7 in the previous month. However, the latest reading came in higher than the preliminary reading of 47.8.

Equities Trading UP
           

  • Atlas Energy Solutions Inc (NYSE:AESI) shares shot up 15% to $12.59 after the company announced that two of its wholly owned, indirect subsidiaries executed separate cost reimbursement agreements.
  • Shares of Marygold Companies Inc (NYSE:MGLD) got a boost, surging 92% to $1.94 after Madison Dearborn Partners agreed to acquire the company in an all-cash deal valued at $2 per share, representing a 100% premium to the prior closing price.
  • INLIF Ltd (NASDAQ:INLF) shares were also up, gaining 72% to $5.08 after the company reported a H1 profit versus a year-ago loss, driven by 26% revenue growth and higher margins.

Equities Trading DOWN

  • Zscaler Inc (NASDAQ:ZS) shares dropped 9% to $195.64. Zscaler named Ross Tackett as chief revenue officer.
  • Shares of Scholastic Corp (NASDAQ:SCHL) were down 8% to $32.00 after the company reported downbeat results for the first quarter.
  • Trugolf Holdings Inc (NASDAQ:TRUG) was down, falling 33% to $0.27 after the company announced a 1-for-10 reverse split of its Class A common stock

Commodities

In commodity news, oil traded down 2.5% to $92.26 while gold traded up 0.5% at $4,319.10.

Silver traded up 1.1% to $64.730 on Friday, while copper fell 0.3% to $6.7720.

Euro zone

European shares were mostly higher today. The eurozone’s STOXX 600 gained 0.3%, while Spain’s IBEX 35 Index rose 0.6%, London’s FTSE 100 rose 0.1%, Germany’s DAX gained 0.5%, while France’s CAC 40 declined 0.1%.

Asia Pacific Markets

Asian markets closed mixed on Friday, with Japan’s Nikkei 225 gaining 1.30%, Hong Kong’s Hang Seng index dipping 1.01% and India’s BSE Sensex rising 0.43%.

Economics

  • U.S. durable goods orders came in largely flat month-over-month at $338.6 billion in August, following two straight monthly gains and versus market estimates of a 0.4% decline.
  • The University of Michigan’s consumer sentiment index fell to 48.1 in September ​from 51.7 in the previous month. However, the latest reading came in higher than the preliminary reading of 47.8.
