08:33 AM EDT, 09/29/2026 (MT Newswires) -- Hapag-Lloyd's (HLAG.F) proposed acquisition of ZIM Integrated Shipping Services is facing opposition from Israel's Ministry of Finance, Bloomberg News reported Tuesday, citing a statement from the ministry. The finance ministry said, according to the report, that there is "tangible concern" that foreign influence could be used to harm Israeli operations or apply foreign pressure, as the governments of Qatar and Saudi Arabia hold stakes in the German shipping company. In response to a request for comment from MT Newswires, Hapag-Lloyd referred to a Sept. 24 release, in which the company and its Israeli partner FIMI Opportunity Funds unveiled a "substantially improved" proposal for the acquisition, under which ZIM Israel would become a fully independent shipping company that is Israeli-owned and managed.
