CoreWeave (CRWV) stock has gained 22% year-to-date (YTD), outperforming the broader market. However, CRWV stock is still trading about 43% below its 52-week high. The primary concern weighing on the stock is CoreWeave’s aggressive investment in data center capacity.
Expanding its AI infrastructure footprint has required substantial capital, increasing cash needs and debt levels while contributing to elevated cash burn. These pressures were evident in the company’s second-quarter results. CoreWeave reported a net loss of $626 million, compared with $290 million in the same quarter of 2025. Interest expense also increased sharply to $640 million from $267 million, largely reflecting higher debt to scale infrastructure and fulfill contracted customer commitments.
Investor concerns have also extended beyond the balance sheet. Questions about the sustainability of demand for AI cloud infrastructure have created additional pressure on CRWV shares.
However, CoreWeave’s underlying fundamentals are improving. The company’s second-quarter operating performance indicated continued demand for its AI infrastructure services, suggesting that customer requirements remain strong despite broader concerns about the AI infrastructure market.
In addition, solid revenue growth, improving operating leverage, and a significant contracted backlog support its investment case.
Demand for AI infrastructure continues to accelerate as adoption expands beyond frontier AI laboratories into enterprise software, financial services, industrial applications, government programs, and other compute-intensive workloads. This favors CoreWeave and supports sustained demand for its AI infrastructure.
CoreWeave's recent results highlight the strength of this demand. Revenue reached $2.6 billion, up 112% year-over-year (YoY), while revenue backlog increased to $104 billion. The company also secured more than $25 billion of additional net customer commitments in the early weeks of the third quarter. Together, these figures provide substantial forward revenue visibility.
Pricing trends also remain favorable. Pricing for newer Blackwell and Vera Rubin systems has reached record levels, while pricing for older-generation GPUs remains resilient. With near-term capacity effectively sold out, CoreWeave appears to have significant visibility into utilization and future revenue. Sustained pricing strength and high demand will improve the economics of the company's substantial investments in data center capacity.
CoreWeave’s profitability is showing signs of improving alongside growth. Its adjusted EBITDA increased to $1.5 billion from $1.2 billion in Q1. Meanwhile, the adjusted EBITDA margin increased to 59% from 56% in Q1. Adjusted operating income rose to $128 million from $21 million in the previous quarter, with the operating margin expanding to 5% from 1%.
The expansion of CoreWeave’s non-GPU offerings could provide another source of margin improvement. As customers increasingly use CoreWeave as a broader infrastructure platform, demand is expanding across storage, CPUs, networking, and software in addition to GPU compute. These services had already exceeded $400 million in annual recurring revenue by the second quarter. Because these offerings can diversify the company's revenue mix and offer more attractive economics, continued adoption could improve CoreWeave’s overall profitability over time.
There may also be additional margin upside from recent pricing actions. Management indicated that operating margins improved in the second quarter before the company implemented pricing changes in July. If these adjustments are sustained, their contribution could become increasingly visible in subsequent periods.
Overall, strong AI infrastructure demand, a large backlog, solid pricing, rising utilization, and the expansion of higher-margin services could provide CoreWeave with meaningful operating leverage as its infrastructure footprint grows.
CoreWeave remains a high-growth, high-risk investment. Its elevated debt, interest expense, and capital requirements remain important risks. Moreover, analysts are cautiously optimistic about CRWV stock and maintain a “Moderate Buy” consensus rating. Their average price target of $136 sits about 58% above its current price.
Despite the risk, improving operating performance and exceptional demand visibility strengthen the investment case. CoreWeave’s $104 billion backlog, strong revenue growth, better pricing environment, and improving margins augur well for future growth and make CoreWeave stock a buy.
