Amazon agreed to pay $8.25 million to Washington DC to settle a lawsuit. The lawsuit alleges that the e-commerce company charges full Prime membership fees to residents in the two Washington DC zip codes, but does not provide them with fast delivery services. According to a signed consent order submitted to the Washington DC High Court on Thursday, $7.25 million of this settlement will be used to refund Prime members in the postal code regions corresponding to the 7th and 8th districts, and another $1 million will be used as a fine paid by the company to the District. In addition to providing financial compensation, the settlement also requires Amazon to notify relevant consumers 60 days in advance if it wants to restrict self-operated delivery to a certain postal code region for security reasons.
