03:01 AM EDT, 10/02/2026 (MT Newswires) -- Sentiment in Germany's chemical industry sustained its upward trajectory for the second consecutive month in September, driven by rising export demand and customers rebuilding inventory, even at higher prices. The business climate index jumped to 5.5 points from -2.6 points in August, the ifo Institute said Friday. The indicator for the current business situation turned positive to 8.8 points, while the expectations index "brightened noticeably" to 2.3 points from -15.0 points. Manufacturing sector orders and increased infrastructure and defense spending are also supporting the chemical industry's recovery. However, ifo noted that the recovery appears "fragile" as the industry's overall order backlog remains "very low."
