A Yemeni government military official told Xinhua News Agency reporters on the 5th that Yemeni government forces launched a counterattack on the same day against Houthi positions that control the strategically important area surrounding the Strait of Mande. Waddah Dubaish, military spokesman for Yemen's West Coast Coalition Forces, told reporters that under air cover, government forces advanced from multiple directions in the Zubab region of Taiz province in southwestern Yemen and fought against the Houthis who occupied the highlands surrounding the Strait of Mande. “Military operations continue, and the Saudi-led multinational coalition forces are providing air cover to support government ground forces.” Dubaish also said that with the support of local tribal forces, government forces have recovered several positions, cut off a supply line where the Houthis sent reinforcements to troops near the Strait of Mande, and captured a number of Houthis. Al-Masirah TV, controlled by the Houthis, quoted a Houthi military source on the 5th as reporting, denying that government forces are making progress in the direction of Zubab, saying the relevant news was “completely untrue.”
