Macau Monetary Authority: Residents' deposits rose 0.9% month-on-month to MOP 845.3 billion in August

The Zhitong Finance App learned that on October 6, statistics released by the Macau Monetary Authority showed that residents' deposits increased month-on-month in August 2026, while residents' loans recorded a decline. Residents' deposits increased by 0.9% month-on-month to MOP 845.3 billion, while non-residents' deposits increased 1.6% to MOP 377.4 billion. Meanwhile, public sector deposits in the banking system increased by 1.3% to MOP 274.1 billion. Combined, total deposits in the banking system rose 1.1% to MOP 1,496.8 billion; of these, MOP, HKD, RMB and USD accounted for 18.5%, 45.1%, 10.1% and 24.6%, respectively.

Combined, total loans in the banking system increased by 0.4% to MOP 1,038 billion; of these, MOP, HKD, RMB and USD accounted for 22.3%, 40.1%, 16.8% and 16.8%, respectively.

Operating ratio

By the end of August 2026, the bank's overall loan-to-deposit ratio fell to 69.3% from 69.8% at the end of July, and the loan-to-deposit ratio for local residents fell from 42.8% to 42.2%. The current asset-to-debt ratio calculated over a period of one month and three months was at the level of 59.8% and 48.7%, respectively. Furthermore, the ratio of non-performing loans remained flat at 4.4% on a monthly basis.
