Dow Jumps 200 Points; US Trade Deficit Widens In August

U.S. stocks traded higher this morning, with the Dow Jones index gaining over 200 points on Tuesday.

Following the market opening Tuesday, the Dow traded up 0.41% to 51,478.02 while the NASDAQ jumped 0.59% to 27,638.96. The S&P 500 also rose, gaining, 0.50% to 7,812.72.

Leading and Lagging Sectors

Utilities shares jumped by 2% on Tuesday.

In trading on Tuesday, energy stocks fell by 0.4%.

Top Headline

The U.S. trade deficit rose to $105.6 billion in August from a revised $92.8 billion in the previous month, compared to market estimates of $102.0 billion and recording its largest deficit since March 2025.

U.S. exports rose $4.5 billion to $315.2 billion in August, while imports rose $17.2 billion to a record high of $420.8 billion in August.

Equities Trading UP
           

  • Freight Technologies Inc (NASDAQ:FRGT) shares shot up 168% to $0.66.
  • Shares of XChange TEC.INC (NASDAQ:XHG) got a boost, surging 97% to $3.75 after the company announced it intends to gradually reduce operations in Mainland China and plans to invest between $5 million and $10 million in the U.S. Market.
  • Xiao-I Corp (NASDAQ:AIXI) shares were also up, gaining 95% to $2.94.

Equities Trading DOWN

  • Arrivent Biopharma Inc (NASDAQ:AVBP) shares dipped 59% to $11.71 as the company said Says Phase 3 trial of firmonertinib in EGFR Exon 20 lung cancer missed primary progression-free survival endpoint.
  • Shares of Armada Acquisition Corp II (NASDAQ:XRPN) were down 49% to $19.75. Armada Acquisition recently announced its shareholders approved the proposed business combination with Evernorth Holdings.
  • Nft Ltd (NYSE:MI) was down, falling 46% to $3.78 after jumping 683% on Monday.

Commodities

In commodity news, oil traded down 2.4% to $87.26 while gold traded up 1% at $4,197.90.

Silver traded up 0.6% to $61.645 on Tuesday, while copper fell 0.3% to $6.6235.

Euro zone

European shares were higher today. The eurozone’s STOXX 600 gained 0.4%, while Spain’s IBEX 35 Index rose 0.6%, London’s FTSE 100 rose 0.2%, Germany’s DAX climbed 0.5%, while France’s CAC 40 rose 0.3%.

Asia Pacific Markets

Asian markets closed higher on Tuesday, with Japan’s Nikkei 225 surging 1.05%, Hong Kong’s Hang Seng Index gaining 1% and India’s BSE Sensex rising 0.95%.
