Hogs Slipping Back on Turnaround Tuesday

Lean hog futures are slipping back 50 cents to $1.20 at midday, with October up 25 cents. USDA’s national base hog price was at $76.09 in the Tuesday PM report, down $2.43 from the day prior. The CME Lean Hog Index was down another 57 cents on October 2 at $79.63.

Census data converted to a carcass basis showed 515.88 million lbs of pork exported in August, down 4.6% from a year ago and 2.4% below last month.

USDA’s pork carcass cutout value was up $1.17 in the Tuesday morning report, $87.18. The picnic and ham primals were the only reported lower. Federally inspected hog slaughter for Monday was estimated at 493,000 head. That was 9,000 head above last Monday and 1,816 head larger than the same Monday last year.

Oct 26 Hogs  are at $78.100, up $0.250,

Dec 26 Hogs  are at $70.450, down $0.500

Feb 27 Hogs are at $71.525, down $1.175,
