Key Points

  • He believes it is better placed than its rivals to surmount the challenges facing the power engineering segment.

  • This is greatly helped by a recent executive order issued by President Trump.

GE Vernova (NYSE: GEV) was flagged by a well-known researcher as a top stock buy in the power engineering space after market close on Monday, and investors reacted positively the following day. The company's shares cruised nearly 4% higher on this wave, easily topping the S&P 500 index's 0.3% gain that trading session.

According to Investing.com, the analyst wrote that power technology companies are currently enjoying a period of growth due to numerous factors, not least the eager build-out of facilities supporting the build-out of artificial intelligence (AI).

However, this is occurring at a time of notable macroeconomic insecurity. Conflicts in Europe and, especially, the Middle East have driven up prices for certain commodities and stoked inflation. Businesses and consumers alike are becoming more hesitant to spend, and the products/services power engineering companies offer tend to be expensive.

American heavyweight

GE Vernova tops Rusch's "best four in the sector" list. He tagged it as Oppenheimer's No. 1 pick in the space, citing President Trump's August executive order barring imports of bulk power equipment from China. In his view, GE Vernova has significant pricing power in the absence of competition from that part of the world.

In mine, the company doesn't just benefit from the ban on Chinese imports -- it's a market leader on its own as a go-to producer of power-generation equipment crucial for AI build-outs. And with a growing backlog, it looks like it's smack dab in the middle of a high-demand business that could sustain it for years.
