Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) stock has already been a blockbuster investment in 2026, but a senior Citi analyst believes it has significant further room to the upside. In a research note yesterday, Atif Malik maintained a “Buy” rating on AMD and raised his price target rather significantly to $800, indicating potential upside of another 23% from here.

As of this writing, AMD shares are trading at nearly 3x their price at the start of this year.

Citi’s Bullish Thesis for AMD Stock

Malik recommends owning AMD stock primarily because he now sees the firm’s core CPU market hitting a $300 billion valuation by the end of this decade. In his note, he attributed the upward revision to “the launch of several personal AI agents, including Muse, Dots, Instinct, GrokBot, and GeminiSpark.”

Unlike conventional chatbots, agentic artificial intelligence operates continuously in the background to execute multi-step tasks autonomously.

The Citi analyst highlighted cybersecurity as a prime case where “always-on agents could generate much higher token volumes,” boosting compute and inference demand across both consumer and enterprise workloads.

Advanced Micro Devices is strongly positioned to benefit from that accelerating demand, he added.

What May Drive AMD Shares Higher

Malik’s bullish stance on AMD shares is rooted in the shift toward autonomous AI agents, which are fundamentally redefining chip demand across the semiconductor landscape.

Pointing to Meta’s recently launched Muse — one of the earliest agentic tools to roll out at a “true social-network scale” — he noted that supporting even a fraction of its user base requires vast server capabilities.

In fact, Citi estimates that each increase of a million daily active users (DAUs) of such agents could translate to $70 million to $190 million in hardware revenue.

As these always-on agents proliferate, the subsequent surge in token generation and continuous workloads should expand the addressable market for high-performance processors, placing AMD in a prime position to capture long-term infrastructure spending.

What’s the Consensus Rating on AMD?

Other Wall Street analysts are just as bullish, if not more, on Advanced Micro Devices.

The consensus rating on AMD stock sits at “Strong Buy,” with price targets as high as $1,250 indicating massive upside potential from current levels.
