06:50 AM EDT, 10/08/2026 (MT Newswires) -- The European Commission imposed a 40 million-euro penalty on Kingspan Group (KRX.IR) for providing "incorrect and misleading information" during its review of the company's planned acquisition of Trimo. The commission said Thursday that the Irish building materials company committed four distinct infringements under the European Union Merger Regulation, or EUMR, down from the six it cited in its 2024 statement of objections. The breaches involved misleading information about how Kingspan tracks penetration rates for its mineral fiber sandwich panels, the availability of data on bids won and lost, the involvement of board members in the Trimo deal, other acquisitions and business strategy, and Kingspan's research and development. The commission said the infringements are considered "serious" and noted that the EUMR allows fines of up to 1% of the company's total turnover. The companies abandoned the deal in 2022 after the commission raised concerns that the deal could negatively affect competition in certain building materials markets.
