Zhitong Financial App News, Wuwu Biology (300357.SZ) issued an announcement. Recently, Zhejiang Wuwu Stem Cell Technology Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as “Zhejiang Stem Cell”), an indirect holding subsidiary of the company, obtained the “Drug Clinical Trial Approval Notice” from the government service portal of the State Drug Administration, and the “Human Umbilical Cord Mesenchymal Stem Cell Type II Injection” (hereinafter referred to as “this product”) drug clinical trial application submitted by Zhejiang stem cells was approved.
As of the disclosure date of this announcement, no mesenchymal stem cell drugs to treat sepsis and septic shock have been approved for marketing at home or abroad. Sepsis is a clinical syndrome with a high case fatality rate due to host dysfunction caused by infection, leading to life-threatening organ dysfunction. Septic shock is sepsis combined with severe circulatory, cellular, and metabolic disorders, and the risk of death is higher than sepsis alone. The pathophysiological mechanisms of sepsis and septic shock are complex, often leading to multiple organ dysfunction and poor prognosis. Surviving patients may have cognitive impairment and organ dysfunction, and impaired quality of life. Currently, treatment strategies for sepsis and septic shock are mainly limited to supportive treatment and the application of broad-spectrum antimicrobials. Despite continuous advances in liquid resuscitation, vasoactive drugs, and organ function support technology, the case fatality rate and long-term complication rate of patients with sepsis and septic shock remain high, and breakthrough treatment strategies are still needed.
