Shopify Inc. (NASDAQ:SHOP) stock is trading higher Monday in premarket trading after Cantor Fitzgerald analyst Deepak Mathivanan reiterated a Neutral rating and raised his price forecast from $145 to $158.

Nasdaq futures are down 0.14% while S&P 500 futures have gained 0.03%.

Earlier Analyst Activity

The stock carries a Buy rating with an average price forecast of $169.70.

Earlier analyst activity includes JP Morgan maintaining its Overweight rating and raising the forecast to $200 on October 6, Wedbush reiterating its Outperform rating with a price forecast of $176 on September 23 and Bernstein initiating coverage on September 10 with an Outperform rating and a $160 price forecast.

Push Towards AI

Earlier in September, Shopify partnered with Meta Platforms, Inc. (NASDAQ:META) to allow Meta’s personal AI agent, Muse, to browse and complete purchases across all Shopify-powered stores using Shop Pay.

Piper Sandler also sees agentic shopping as a share-gain opportunity for Shopify.

Shopify’s management during its second-quarter earnings call in August highlighted a threefold increase in AI-driven traffic and orders, strong adoption of its Sidekick AI assistant, and higher conversion rates through its AI-powered product catalog.

Technical Analysis

Shopify is trading well above its major moving averages, with the stock 17.6% above the 20-day SMA ($146.66) and 33.2% above the 200-day SMA ($129.52), which keeps the longer-term trend firmly pointed higher.

The 20-day SMA is also above the 50-day SMA, and the golden cross that triggered in August (50-day SMA above the 200-day SMA) continues to reinforce the bullish structure.

Momentum is the main near-term risk: RSI is 73.47, which flags an overbought condition after a strong run.

  • Key Resistance: $173.00 — a nearby round-number area that sits just above the current price
  • Key Support: $144.00 — a prior pivot zone that also lines up near the broader moving-average “catch-up” area if the trend cools

Earnings Outlook

Shopify is scheduled to report quarterly earnings on November 3, 2026.

Analysts expect earnings of 46 cents per share, compared with 34 cents a year earlier. Revenue is projected to reach $3.75 billion, up from $2.8 billion.

Shopify trades at a premium price-to-earnings ratio of about 115.4 times.

Benzinga Edge Rankings

The Benzinga Edge scorecard for Shopify highlights its strengths and weaknesses compared to the broader market:

  • Momentum: Bullish (Score: 91.74) — The chart is acting like a leader, with buyers consistently supporting the uptrend.
  • Value: Weak (Score: 6.23) — The stock screens as expensive, which can raise the bar for future execution to justify the price.
  • Growth: Strong (Score: 71.46) — The market is still rewarding the company’s growth profile, which helps explain the persistent bid.

The Verdict: Shopify’s Benzinga Edge signal reveals a momentum-driven, growth-heavy profile with a clear premium-valuation tradeoff.

SHOP Price Action: Shopify shares were up 1.33% at $173.13 during premarket trading on Monday, according to Benzinga Pro data.
