09:29 AM EDT, 10/12/2026 (MT Newswires) -- The UK government plans to strengthen its cyber defenses by increasing its oversight of artificial intelligence technology. Companies developing frontier AI will be "put to work" to identify and report on serious AI incidents and near misses, following recent instances in which autonomous AI agents behave maliciously, Kanishka Narayan, the country's minister for AI, said in a speech delivered Monday. Allowing Britain's AI Security Institute to retain access to powerful AI models before release and AI verification efforts are also among measures being considered amid safety concerns.
