On Tuesday, Samsung Electronics announced a strategy for next-generation memory and storage technology aimed at improving the performance of artificial intelligence infrastructure. The Korean chip maker unveiled the relevant plan at the 2026 Open Computing Project Global Summit, which opens in San Francisco. Samsung proposed three core technology directions for improving the performance of AI infrastructure: high-performance memory, CXL-based memory expansion technology, and data storage and management solutions equipped with next-generation solid-state drives. Shen Haojun, vice president of Samsung Enterprise and head of the application engineering team, delivered a keynote speech. Shen Haojun said: As the AI model continues to grow in size, the data and key value cache required for inference continues to expand. To improve AI system performance, in addition to memory bandwidth, the importance of memory expansion and data storage technology continues to rise. He added that Samsung is strengthening joint design and technical verification with global customers and partners from the early stages of development to optimize the entire AI system in the full stack. Samsung also plans to jointly present CXL-based memory expansion solutions with Chaowei at this summit to provide a technical path to solve existing system memory capacity bottlenecks.
