Natural gas grid operator Desfa said in a statement that in the first nine months of this year, Greece's gas demand increased nearly 13% year over year, reaching 63.53 terawatt-hours. The increase reflects a “significant increase in exports”, which increased 169% year over year to 13.60 terawatt-hours compared to 5.06 terawatt-hours in the same period last year. “This development confirms Greece's growing role as a strategic energy hub and gas supply gateway for south-east Europe.” The Sidirokastro entry point and the Revithoussa LNG terminal are still the two major gateways for Greek gas imports. The import volume through Sidirokastro has basically stabilized at 25.51 terawatt-hours, compared to 25.46 terawatt-hours for the same period in 2025. Revithoussa LNG terminals grew by nearly 12% to 24.28 TWh. Imports through Alexandroupolis FSRU also increased significantly, reaching 5.82 terawatt-hours, more than five times the 1.03 terawatt-hours in the same period last year.
