11:13 AM EDT, 10/13/2026 (MT Newswires) -- Botswana's government and Global Diamond Consortium are finalizing the allocation of their stakes in Anglo American's (AAL.L, AGL.JO) De Beers, Bloomberg News reported Tuesday, citing people familiar with the matter. The potential takeover will likely increase Botswana's stake in the diamond company to 25% from the current 15%, according to the sources, who added that talks are ongoing and a formal agreement has not been reached. The London-listed mining giant is said to be in talks to sell its 85% stake in De Beers for $1 billion, according to the report. The consortium is headed by former De Beers Chief Executive Officer Gareth Penny. Anglo American had no comment, while Botswana's presidential office did not immediately respond to a request for comment from MT Newswires.
