On March 27, 2013, the Miami Heat’s 27-game winning streak ended in Chicago. One day later, Marathon Petroleum Corp. (NYSE:MPC) closed its tenth straight monthly gain.

There was no eleventh.

The refiner is now one month-end close from matching that streak, the only one of its kind since it began trading in 2011.

Shares traded at $466.02 on Tuesday, up 17.9% in October and 186.6% in 2026. The streak holds if October ends above $395.42, the September close.

The 2013 run lifted the stock 148.4%. It then fell 20.7% in three months, as new pipelines erased the discount on U.S. crude.

Marathon reports third-quarter results on Nov. 3. The Ohio-based refiner is the top holding of the the VanEck Oil Refiners ETF (NYSE:CRAK) which is up about 77% this year.
