iPhone Duo Demand Heats Up

Just days after a report that Apple has cut component orders by 15% to 20% for the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max, the company could have good news on one of its smartphone models that has yet to ship.

A report from Securities Times in China says Apple underestimated demand for the iPhone Duo, the foldable smartphone yet to be released. Apple is increasing orders across the supply chain by 30%, according to 9to5Mac.

This would take initial supply from a prior estimate of six to seven million phones to closer to 10 million phones, according to the report.

Preorders for the iPhone Duo start on Oct. 16.

Apple will have a better idea of demand as presales kick off.

Why It’s Important

The iPhone Duo is Apple’s first foldable smartphone and the initial demand could show whether it is a huge market for the technology giant.

Recent reports of supply cuts for the iPhone 18 Pro Max could signal weaker than expected demand and/or consumers waiting for cheaper versions of the latest smartphone.

Apple typically releases the base models of each iPhone first and then the more premium models.

Higher costs for consumers for this round of iPhones are also an area to watch, as Apple passed on some of the rising component costs to consumers, while taking a large portion of the hit itself, which will likely impact margins in upcoming quarterly results.

Apple Stock Price Action

Apple stock closed Tuesday near flat at $341.27, with shares hitting a new all-time high of $348.15 during the trading session. Apple stock is up 25.9% year-to-date in 2026.
