05:33 AM EDT, 10/14/2026 (MT Newswires) -- Alvotech (ALVO.IC, ALVO-SDB.ST) and pharmaceutical company Advanz Pharma filed an application with the European Medicines Agency for AVT29, a proposed biosimilar to 8 milligrams of Eylea, according to a Wednesday release. The 8 mg formulation of Eylea, which is used to treat certain retinal diseases through injections in the eye, could potentially lower the quantity of maintenance injections and the treatment load for patients. The submission is the first across the globe for a proposed biosimilar to Eylea 8 mg, the biosimilar-focused biotechnology company Alvotech said. Under a partnership agreement, Alvotech is in charge of development and commercial supply of AVT29, while Advanz Pharma oversees its registration and commercialization in Europe.
