The Zhitong Finance App learned that the private equity group General Atlantic Investment (General Atlantic) plans to launch an IPO in the first half of 2027, issuing shares as early as the spring of 2027, and the valuation may reach 10 billion US dollars. The New York investment giant with over $130 billion in assets under management is seeking to fund ambitious expansion plans and catch up with listed competitors such as Blackstone (BX.US) and Apollo Global Management (APO.US).
The current listing of Pan Atlantic Investments will finance its growth. In the $24 trillion private equity market, under the trend of industry consolidation, only a few large listed institutions may dominate this sector in the future.
According to a source, this IPO will help the company further diversify, expand into new markets other than private equity transactions, and recruit talents to manage a wider customer base, covering the diverse needs of large sovereign wealth funds to wealthy individual investors.
Pan Atlantic Investments was founded in 1980 as the family office of legendary philanthropist Chuck Feeney (Chuck Feeney). Finney is the co-founder of DFS Global Duty Free. The original purpose of the establishment was not to maximize wealth, but to feed back philanthropy by investing in high-growth companies. In the early days, the company did not have an external LP for a long period of time. All capital came from Finney's personal wealth. Later, diversified LPs such as global pensions, family funds, and endowment funds were gradually introduced, transforming from a single family capital to a global asset management platform.
Today, Pan-Atlantic invests a total of about 130 billion US dollars in global asset management, with a cumulative external investment capital of 121 billion US dollars. It has four major complementary investment lines: growth equity funds, private equity, BeyondNetZero carbon neutrality theme funds, and sustainable infrastructure funds. It has offices in more than 20 countries around the world and has more than 900 employees.
The New York-based investment company manages more than 130 billion US dollars in assets and is known as “growth investing,” that is, investing in rapidly growing companies without obtaining a controlling interest. The agency was an early investor in internet giants such as Facebook (META.US) and Alibaba (BABA.US), as well as technology groups such as fintech company Klarna (KLAR.US) and cybersecurity company CrowdStrike (CRWD.US).
In recent years, Pan-Atlantic investment has continued to increase on the AI circuit, taking a heavy position on Anthropic, the world's leading AI model company. In May 2026, Anthropic, Blackstone, Goldman Sachs and others jointly established an AI-native enterprise service company, and Pan-Atlantic Investment promised to invest 150 million US dollars as one of the core investors. The company's advisors believe these AI investments will be more profitable than traditional leveraged acquisitions as interest rates rise raises concerns about a backlog of unsold acquisitions.
Pan-Atlantic Investments initially secretly filed a listing application with regulators in 2023, but the plan was delayed due to geopolitical turmoil and rising interest rates. Last year, the company hired James Gorman, the former CEO of Morgan Stanley, as a strategic advisor to prepare for the listing.
According to reports, the company is currently targeting the beginning of 2027. If Pan-Atlantic Investments goes public, it will be the first private equity company focused on growth investments to go public, in stark contrast to competitors such as Blackstone, KKR (KKR.US), and Apollo, which are seen as pioneers of leveraged acquisitions.
