11:25 AM EDT, 10/15/2026 (MT Newswires) -- The European Union is reportedly considering imposing quotas on additional sectors of goods imported from China and other countries as part of efforts to lower its trade deficit, Bloomberg News reported Thursday, citing a person familiar with the matter. The European Commission is assessing trade data for a surge in certain imported goods in the chemicals and machinery sectors, among other industries, according to the report. The source told Bloomberg that the European Commission could use the "understanding" it recently reached with China regarding trade in hybrid vehicles as a model for other sectors. The Commission did not immediately respond to MT Newswires' request for comment. (Market Chatter news is derived from conversations with market professionals globally.
