02:59 AM EDT, 10/16/2026 (MT Newswires) -- The UK Office of Gas and Electricity Markets, or Ofgem, launched the consultation process for the proposed activation of the Market Stabilisation Charge to reduce instability amid local energy market volatility. The Market Stabilisation Charge mechanism is intended to protect suppliers who purchased energy in advance and may face losses if customers switch to cheaper options, according to a Friday release. The mechanism compensates a supplier losing a customer through a payment by the supplier that gained the customer. The consultation period will close on Oct. 29.
