11:24 AM EDT, 10/19/2026 (MT Newswires) -- Novartis opted not to start the second part of its phase 2 K12201 study of iptacopan in lupus nephritis, a type of kidney inflammation, following completion of the first part, a spokesperson told MT Newswires on Monday. "The decision was based on strategic considerations and was not driven by any interim efficacy or safety findings. Iptacopan studies in other indications will continue as planned," according to the spokesperson in an emailed statement. The Swiss drugmaker said it has informed study investigators and is in talks with participants regarding next steps, adding that it remains committed to lupus nephritis research through the ongoing phase 3 ianalumab trial.
