What Comes Next For AVITA Medical After A 276% Gain

Listen to the news

AVITA Medical spent much of the year focused on practical issues like getting RECELL properly reimbursed and into more trauma centers, not chasing headlines. Investors who held AVITA Medical from the start of the year are up 275.8%, including dividends. If you were weighing a position back on 1 January, you had to decide whether Medicare resolution and trauma expansion would justify that kind of payoff before any of the later quarterly numbers arrived.

Narratives are how investors here put a case on the record, with explicit assumptions about revenue, margins and the multiple. Those assumptions imply an estimated Fair Value.

The Two AVITA Medical Stories Investors Had To Weigh

The shares cost US$3.45 at the start of the period, and anyone looking at AVITA Medical had to choose between two very different stories about what might come next.

On the bullish side, the Narrative put Fair Value at US$8.26, or 139% above the start price. That case leaned on revenue growth of 42.5% and a future profit margin of 35.8%, supported by Medicare resolution and wider RECELL use in trauma, as well as new products such as Cohealyx and PermeaDerm.

The bearish view set Fair Value at US$3, or 13% below the start price. This scenario assumed slower revenue growth of 21.2%, pressure on reimbursement, and ongoing dependence on RECELL, with regulatory delays and competition identified as key risks.

What The Results Changed For AVITA Medical

The clearest new fact was AVITA Medical reporting Q2 2026 revenue of US$21.702m and a loss of US$7.663m. That outcome supported the optimistic case on top line and net margin, which improved to a loss margin of 35.3%. Profit still sat below zero though, so the profitability claim in the bullish narrative remained unproven.

The lesson here is simple. When a story leans on a margin swing, track the reported net margin each quarter and test whether losses are shrinking in line with the original assumption.

What AVITA Medical’s Run Now Asks You To Believe

Today AVITA Medical trades at US$13.04, so anyone buying now is paying well above where this Narrative’s Fair Value currently sits. The Narrative argues that improved reimbursement clarity and RECELL led adoption, supported by Cohealyx and PermeaDerm, can still support the business even if the valuation looks full.

A buyer today is effectively assuming broader hospital uptake and efficient execution continue. The selected Narrative then asks how reimbursement stability, product concentration and capital needs might affect that adoption path and the cash flow that must follow.

"Continued reimbursement issues, product concentration, margin pressure, liquidity challenges, and slow international expansion collectively threaten AVITA's revenue growth, profitability, and overall financial stability."

Find Your Own Contrarian Opportunity

You may be late to this rally, but that does not have to mean arriving late to every opportunity. Start with companies whose prices leave room for a different view of their future. Here are three trading below our estimates.

  • Company 1 - 46% below our estimate - converts a record backlog of data center and modular projects into higher margin work.
  • Company 2 - 32% below our estimate - offers leveraged exposure to a large reserve base with concentrated gold production assets.
  • Company 3 - 42% below our estimate - sells high end scientific consulting as regulations, AI projects and risk reviews become more complex.

That is three of the list. See all 25 companies with the balance sheet to back it up →
