Advanced Micro Devices Inc (NASDAQ:AMD) stock traded higher on Monday as semiconductor and chip companies rebounded from last week’s sector-wide weakness.

The Philadelphia Semiconductor Index gained 3.1% by mid-morning in New York, marking its strongest single-session performance since Sept. 21. The index had closed lower for eight consecutive sessions from Oct. 7 through Oct. 16, declining 15.74% and finishing Friday nearly 24% below its June 22 record level.

The semiconductor sector rebound followed a Goldman Sachs upgrade of cloud operator CoreWeave Inc. The rally pushed the iShares Semiconductor ETF (NASDAQ:SOXX) up 3.82% on Monday.

Tech Sector Boosts Broader Markets

Broad market indexes advanced alongside chip stocks, with the Nasdaq up 1.94% and the S&P 500 gaining 0.86%. Market leadership remained concentrated in Technology and Consumer Discretionary sectors, despite only four of 11 S&P sectors advancing and an advance/decline ratio of 0.6.

An hour after the opening bell, Nasdaq 100 constituents added up to $472 billion in total market value, according to Benzinga data. Semiconductor companies generated roughly $270 billion of that expansion.

Technical Analysis

From a trend perspective, AMD is still in a bullish long-term structure: it’s trading 39.7% above its 200-day SMA ($395.94), and the 50-day SMA remains above the 200-day SMA—typically a constructive backdrop for swing buyers. At the same time, the stock is trading 8.9% below its 20-day SMA ($607.24), suggesting the recent run has cooled and price is digesting rather than accelerating straight up.

Key levels are fairly well-defined with the stock sitting between medium-term trend support and the prior peak zone. A push back toward the October swing-high area would put the 52-week high back in play, while a failure to hold intermediate trend support would shift attention toward deeper pullback levels.

  • Key Resistance: $658.50 — aligns with the 52-week high area ($658.52), a zone where prior rallies have topped out
  • Key Support: $45 — a prior buyer-defense area that sits well above the 200-day SMA, making it a key "line in the sand" on a larger pullback

AMD Stock Price Activity: AMD shares were up 4.05% at $550.18 at the time of publication on Monday, according to Benzinga Pro data.
