The Zhitong Finance App learned that Hong Kong International Airport's air traffic volume continued to grow steadily in September. Among them, passenger traffic recorded a double-digit increase of 10.2% over the previous year to 4.86 million passengers; aircraft take-off and landing volume increased 7.0% to 32,175 flights; and cargo volume increased 6.3% to 433,000 metric tons.
Overall passenger traffic growth in September continued to be driven by double-digit increases recorded by transit/transit passengers, followed by a 5.0% year-on-year increase in visitors to Hong Kong. Most markets recorded growth during the month, with the mainland China market showing the most significant performance, while the decline in the Middle East market continued to narrow.
In terms of freight, re-export and import volumes increased by 26.9% and 9.2% respectively, which led to an increase in freight volume in September. By region, the increase in freight volume was mainly driven by the Southeast Asian and mainland China markets, offsetting the decline in the European market. The decline in European market performance was mainly due to the EU's cancellation of the low tariff exemption arrangement for low-value imported goods in July.
In summary, in the first three quarters of this year, Hong Kong International Airport received a total of 49.1 million passengers, with a year-on-year increase of 10.1% and 3.9%, respectively. Freight volume increased 3.1% year over year to 3.78 million tonnes.
In the past 12 months, airport passenger traffic increased 11.5% year on year to 65.4 million passengers, aircraft take-off and landing volume increased 4.9% to 40,5945, and cargo volume increased 3.3% year on year to 5.18 million metric tons.
