10:49 AM EDT, 10/20/2026 (MT Newswires) -- The European Council and the European Parliament entered into a provisional agreement on revised rules for organic products, according to a Tuesday release. Under the agreed changes welcomed by the European Commission, imported organic products from non-European Union countries with equivalent systems can use the EU organic logo, provided they meet additional EU production and control requirements. The updated framework also extends the recognition of 11 non-EU nations under the equivalence regime until Dec. 31, 2036, among other changes. The agreement remains subject to the co-legislators' formal approval. Once approved, the regulation will take effect the day after its publication in the Official Journal of the EU.
