French alternative asset manager Tikehau Capital has hired an investment bank to oversee the sale of a stake, Bloomberg reports.
The founders, Antoine Flamarion and Mathieu Chabran, have previously considered taking the firm public in the U.S. as consolidation across the industry increases pressure on companies to achieve greater scale.
The firm’s shares have fallen more than 20% since its Paris stock market debut in 2017, Bloomberg reported.
Tikehau was founded in 2004 and has approximately $60 billion in assets under management as of June 30, 2026. The firm invests across four asset classes: credit, real assets, private equity and capital markets strategies.
Earlier this year, the firm lowered its 2026 AUM target to "at least" $67 billion, down from more than $72 billion the company set during its 2022 capital markets day, Bloomberg noted.
Tikehau’s major investors include an investment vehicle backed by several French financial institutions, health insurer MACSF and Singapore’s sovereign wealth fund Temasek.
Asset managers have been partnering with strategic investors to secure capital, expand distribution networks and strengthen their ability to pursue acquisitions as they grow their private markets businesses.
Last month, French investment firm Wendel SE had also hired advisers to explore potential partnerships for its private asset management platform.
Among the most active investors acquiring stakes in alternative asset managers are Blue Owl Capital Inc., Blackstone Inc. and Petershill Partners, the alternative asset management investment platform backed by Goldman Sachs Group Inc, Bloomberg noted.
