The Zhitong Finance App learned that the initial quarterly results announced in advance by artificial intelligence (AI) server manufacturer Ultra Micro Computer (SMCI.US) on Tuesday greatly exceeded Wall Street expectations, indicating that the AI infrastructure investment boom is still driving rapid growth in server demand. Boosted by this news, the company's stock price once rose by more than 12% in after-market trading in US stocks.
Ultramicrocomputer said in a statement that the quarterly revenue forecast for the end of September 30 is between 18.5 billion and 19.5 billion US dollars, which is significantly higher than the average analyst forecast of 15 billion US dollars compiled by the media. Based on the median value of US$19 billion in the guidance range, the estimated revenue is about 26.7% higher than market expectations.
Meanwhile, the company expects gross margin of between 12% and 12.5% for the quarter. Although Ultramicrocomputer has yet to release full quarterly financial data, initial revenue performance already reflects strong demand in the AI server market.
As an important supplier in the field of AI servers, ultra-microcomputers benefit from global technology companies continuing to expand AI data center construction and strong demand for high-performance computing equipment. The company's servers are widely equipped with Nvidia (NVDA.US) chips, and Nvidia GPUs have become the core hardware for training and running artificial intelligence models in most AI data centers today. As large technology companies and cloud computing service providers increase investment in computing power infrastructure, demand for ultra-microcomputer-related products continues to be boosted.
However, ultra-microcomputers have also recently received market attention due to a case suspected of violating US export control laws. Notably, the ultra-microcomputer itself was not prosecuted in this case. Although this incident brought some uncertainty to the company, the newly announced preliminary results show that its core business is still strongly supported by growing demand for AI infrastructure.
In terms of stock prices, Ultramicrocomputer closed at $32.47 during the regular trading session in New York on Tuesday, then rose more than 12% in after-hours trading. By the close of trading on Tuesday, the stock had accumulated gains of about 11% this year.
Ultramicrocomputer said it will hold an earnings conference call on November 3 to further discuss operating results for the quarter ending September 30. The company did not explain why it chose to disclose preliminary results in advance of the original earnings release date.
