The Zhitong Finance App learned that the Hong Kong government is developing the northern metropolitan area, and some members of parliament are concerned about promoting the development of the exhibition industry in the northern metropolitan area. The Secretary for Commerce and Economics of Hong Kong, Mr Yau Ying-wah, said that the government has been supporting the development of the exhibition industry through various measures. In terms of the development of the Northern Metropolitan Area (Beidu), Beidu is dominated by industry planning. The government has reserved diverse industrial land in various new development zones to meet market demand and support the development needs of different industries. The Government will make comprehensive considerations when studying the construction of additional exhibition facilities. At this stage, the primary direction is to advance the Wan Chai North reconstruction and Asia Expo expansion project. We will continue to maintain communication with key stakeholders to grasp the industry's long-term needs for exhibition facilities.
Hong Jin-hyeon of the Civil Construction Federation, who raised the question, said that the party is conducting a policy study on the exhibition industry and has received feedback from many small and medium-sized enterprises and local startup exhibition organizers that the government currently has a high threshold for exhibition funding programs. They are concerned about whether the government will set up special funding channels or flexible approval mechanisms for small and medium-sized enterprises and startup exhibition companies.
Qiu Yinghua said that in addition to attracting more international exhibitions and professional exhibitions to be held in Hong Kong, there are also many local SMEs who want to participate in the exhibition to increase sales and meet the needs of consumers. The government will mainly require the venue to balance functional positioning, ensure diversification of the supply and demand of the venue, meet the needs of the market and cover exhibition activities of different sizes and types, so as to consolidate Hong Kong's position as an important exhibition hub.
